Indestinate specialise in providing digital media design and development for museums, art galleries, tourism destinations and towns. Our objectives are two fold – improving the user experience and clearly defining the client’s brand online.

 

User Experience

Our user research is both rigorous and practical in approach and puts your audience at the heart of what we do. We work hard to ensure online visitors not only have a seamless journey in discovering the most relevant content, products and services but also encourage direct interaction and provide the most immersive experience possible. We help provide your audience with a virtual experience of your museum, gallery or historic building, providing content they want, when and where they want it.

Technology

We are technology agnostic. We work with open source content management systems which have good user community’s in line with HLF funded project guidelines. We are able to work with established collection databases including calm and MODES. We have experience with many different languages, applications and platforms including online shops, blogs, video channels, social aggregation and mapping. We are always searching for new tools including augmented reality, 3D virtual reality and proximity technology. This search is driven by the need to create truly compelling experiences for users and visitors. However, we understand the constraints are often not technical but social, and we are adept at choosing and combining technologies to meet our clients’ needs.

Design

Our design principles are simple: to deliver creative ideas which both stimulate and increase interaction with your audience. We do this by combining creativity with innovative technology, helping you to communicate the values and spirit of your organisation. We have a team of visual and interaction designers who are widely experienced in working in the heritage, culture and tourism sectors. They work on projects ranging from consultancy and identity through to websites, apps and interactive experiences. Please see our case studies for some samples of their work.

Approach

Most of our projects start with a question from a prospective client or a call from us to ask if we can come and talk. You may want a new website for example, wish to improve your communication, or fancy ‘a nice app’.
We will always look critically at the question asked. Does your question improve visitor interaction? Would social media help more rather than a new web design? To summarise: We help you to discover the available options. Your brand is always the starting point in everything we design and build. By understanding and describing the brand, everyone gets started on the same path. We then agree what the goal of the project is going to be. Without a goal you cannot score! With a clear brand strategy and goal agreed, we can now work out what resources are needed. Using agile development methodology (sometimes we use the traditional waterfall method where more appropriate) we build a hand-picked team around your project with all the necessary disciplines represented including strategists, interaction designers, visual designers, web developers, editors and copywriters – plus a project leader to ensure everything runs smoothly. Then after months of hard work we finally achieve the goal – a new website, an innovative app or new 3D virtual experience.
