The Forest of Bowland AONB
6 Root Hill Estate Yard, Whitewell Road. Lancashire. BB7 3AY.
This project researched and interpreted the history of two medieval deer parks in the Forest of Bowland, and how they have influenced the modern day landscape. Forest of Bowland AONB approached Indestinate to develop a trail based app which would provide all content without connection.
We suggested an app design which took its look and feel from the specially commissioned reconstructed drawings of the medieval forest created by Jennie Anderson especially for the project. All content would be available in the app without the need for connection. To maximise accessibility each point of interest would have a full audio script, slide show and text.
Working in partnership with the Forest of Bowland AONB worked to incorporate the stunning historical drawings in the structure of the app and the relevant points of interest. Two independent trails were developed, the Leagram and the Radholme Trail.
Each point of interest includes an audio description, interactive slide show and text description of the available history. The project was Heritage Lottery Funded, therefore local businesses listing, contact details and maps we added to maximise the positive economic impact of the project. Each business can include a promotional offer which can be redeemed from within the App.
The app is available on Apple and Android and works completely offline.
